Wansbroughs marks Mental Health Awareness Week

Our people - Wansbroughs LLP

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 15-21 May and will focus on ‘anxiety’.

Anxiety is a common emotion but one that can sometimes escalate and become difficult to control.  A recent study by the charity Mental Health Foundation found that a quarter of all adults regularly experience anxiety.

As part of Wansbroughs’ commitment to staff health, the firm has introduced a number of support initiatives:

  • Yoga for Managing Anxiety

To coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week the firm has commissioned a local yoga instructor to create and deliver a bespoke yoga session for staff with a focus on anxiety.

  • Mental Health Pulse Survey

This month Wansbroughs will introduce a ‘mental health survey’ designed to find out how the firm can further promote and support good mental health at work.

The results from the survey will be used to introduce new measures to benefit staff on an ongoing basis.

The firm recognises that mental health conditions can affect people at any time and as such offers a year-round programme of support:

  • Mental Health First Aiders and Champions

Wansbroughs has five Mental Health First Aiders who are trained in recognising warning signs of mental ill health and offering guidance and appropriate support.  Some teams have appointed Mental Health Champions to provide updates and take a lead on promoting positive mental health.

  • Volunteer Day
Wansbroughs offer all staff one paid day of leave per year to help a registered charity. Previously staff have helped at Julia’s House, scout and guide groups, church and community groups and local food banks.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
All staff have access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The scheme provides support on financial, physical and mental well-being,

The firm’s Wellbeing Policy is reviewed regularly and updated in accordance with other staff policies.

Emma Briers, HR Manager, comments:

“Wansbroughs is committed to promoting positive mental health throughout the firm and actively encourages a good work/life balance for all.  We continue to look for further ways to improve and enhance the year-round support that we provide to staff.”
