O, Come, all ye Farmers and Business Owners: an APR and BPR update

The government has today announced that the threshold at which 100% agricultural property relief and business property relief applies will increase from £1 million to £2.5 million, with 50% relief continuing to apply to qualifying assets above that level.
The announcement means that spouses/civil partners can now pass on up to £5m in qualifying agricultural or business assets between them before paying inheritance tax, on top of existing allowances.
The changes are due to come in from April 2026, and the government will introduce an amendment to the Finance Bill 2025 to effect this amendment.
The announcement will be very welcome news for business and farming families. More detail can be found here.
