Matthew Roberts is a Managing Associate in our Family and Divorce team.
Matthew joined Wansbroughs as a solicitor in 2018 and was promoted to Managing Associate in 2024. Matthew accepts instructions in relation to the full breadth of Family Law matters, including child disputes and the financial matters arising from divorce.
Matthew qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and practised Family Law within a Tier 1 firm dealing exclusively in high net high worth disputes prior to joining Wansbroughs. He has also built up a wealth of experience in other practice areas, including Special Educational Needs (SEN) disputes which often arise when dealing with children matters.
Experience
Matthew specialises in dealing with complex child disputes and high net worth financial negotiations.
He has built up significant experience representing high ranking professionals including CEO’s, senior public sector workers and successful business owners. Matthew is regularly instructed in financial disputes where one party has attempted to conceal assets or there is a desire to exclude non-matrimonial capital from the financial settlement. Matthew believes passionately that everyone has a right to competent legal representation when dealing with life changing legal disputes involving family relationships and divorce. He therefore very much welcomes instructions from individuals who feel they are in a vulnerable or weak financial position and are unsure whether they are in a position to stand up to their former partner.
Matthew has also built up a fantastic record for delivering stand out results in complex Children Act proceedings, often against the odds. This has included Specific Issue Orders to allow or prohibit a change of jurisdiction, orders for no contact when the other parent poses a risk to the child and shared care orders when both parents are able to accommodate such an arrangement. Matthew is proud to have successfully defended malicious allegations of abusive behaviour, which have been pursued solely to frustrate the other parent’s relationship with their children. He is also a competent advocate who is well equipped to represent clients at Court all the way up to a contested Final Hearing.
