Kate Scammell joined Wansbroughs as a Partner in 2025. Kate heads up our Family and Divorce team.
Kate is a Chartered Legal Executive who qualified in 2011 and has specialised in family law since 2003. Before joining Wansbroughs, Kate was a Partner in a Midlands-based firm where she co-managed the firm and specialised in family work.
Experience
Kate is highly experienced and has advised in a wide range of family law cases. She specialises in cases involving complex financial settlements arising out of divorce, both negotiated and within proceedings and disputes between unmarried couples. Kate is used to dealing with cases involving complex asset structures, large pensions, assets held abroad and business assets.
Kate can also advise on wealth protection, both for cohabitants and those seeking a pre or post nuptial agreement.
Kate has also represented many clients in matters concerning arrangements for children including disputes as to where children should live or how their time between their parents should be shared; applications to prevent children being removed from the jurisdiction or for their return to the jurisdiction following an unlawful removal; applications in relation to which school a child should attend and cases involving complex factual disputes.
Approach
Kate is a member of Resolution and strives to resolve matters quickly and pragmatically, allowing clients to move forward with their lives after separation. That said, she is used to being involved in difficult cases where one party is trying to put assets beyond the reach of the other party and will act accordingly in those cases to protect her clients’ interests.
Kate strongly believes in early advice being key to helping clients resolve disputes, but also in helping them feel informed to make decisions in relation to their future.
If you are contemplating divorce, looking for advice in respect of a difficult family dispute or wishing to discuss future protection of family wealth from relationship breakdown, our family team offers a free initial 30-minute appointment to clients we can assist. This allows you to meet the lawyer who would be representing you and have clarity as to your next steps.
