James is an Australian (Qld) Qualified Lawyer, a foreign lawyer, in our Private Client team and advises on a wide range of matters including Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, estate administration and estate planning.

James graduated from Queensland University of Technology in Queensland, Australia in 2017 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) before completing a Graduate Diploma in Practical Legal Training at the College of Law in Australia in 2018.  Following this James was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in June 2018 and subsequently the High Court of Australia.

James practised as a private client lawyer in Queensland from June 2018 to November 2022 primarily in estate and trust administration, estate and trust litigation and estate planning.  He has gained significant experience dealing with estates with complex issues including cross-border assets.

In 2022, James was listed as a Rising Star in Doyle’s Guide in the category of Wills, Estates and Succession Planning, an Australian legal directory.

Recent experience:

  • Assisting an administrator with the administration of a complex estate involving capital gains tax issues arising from the disposal of a large mixed residential agricultural property resulting in tax office applications (Queensland, Australia).
  • Acting for solicitor executor of a complex cross-border high value estate with large shareholding and numerous properties that were required to be disposed of and appropriated to three (3) Australian charities (Queensland and New South Wales, Australia).
  • Acting for executor beneficiaries of an estate with a significant share, property and artwork portfolio including preparing estate accounts and deeds of distribution to divide assets between the beneficiaries personally and their testamentary discretionary trusts per the Will (Queensland, Australia).
