Alan is the firm’s Chairman and the Partner leading our Wills, Tax, Trusts & Probate team. He brings more than 40 years’ experience and advises on a wide range of tax and estate planning arrangements, including those involving complex trust and business structures, and the preparation of Wills and trust documents.
Alan graduated from Nottingham University and qualified as a solicitor in 1981. Before moving to Wansbroughs as a Partner in 2004, he had worked with two London firms, highly regarded for Wills, Tax, Trusts & Probate work, and specialised throughout in tax planning for landed estates and individuals throughout the UK. He was a Partner for many years at Boodle Hatfield in London until his move to Wiltshire. He has been a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 1991.
Recent experience:
- Reorganising several family farming partnerships owning large acreages and property portfolios to maximise capital tax reliefs.
- Advising upon tax efficient variations of trusts by trustees to tie in with the requirements of the family including applications to the High Court where necessary for approval on behalf of minors.
- Acting as an executor of the estate of a member of a high profile family involving numerous complicated inter-family issues, assets and tax considerations.
