Value Added Solicitors
Why bother spending money on a solicitor? If you’ve got the time and the inclination, can you not just save the money and get it done yourself?
Well, maybe you can but then again is there a value to instructing a solicitor? Let’s consider a few examples:
• A relative has died, you can do the paperwork and deal with the estate and save yourself the legal fees. Well, aside from the fact that you may well have got more enjoyable ways to spend your time, a solicitor can offer expert advice and potentially claim exemptions and reliefs from inheritance tax that you did not even know exist.
• If you are a beneficiary of an estate, it might be that you don’t need the inheritance that is coming your way. We can help you put in place a deed of variation that will save you and your loved ones some inheritance tax.
• Some brokers will cease all management of the deceased’s investments on death but that’s not the end of the story – if you ask them, with a signed indemnity, they might start again with active management. Now is not the time to leave a portfolio to fester!
• Do you honestly know how to draft a Will to carry out your wishes accurately and with legal effect? If you do then fire away. If you are not quite so confident then maybe ask someone with the necessary skills.
• If you’re lucky enough to have a family trust do you know how to structure it in the most effective way, to take advantage of the tax reliefs and exemptions available? If so, then away you go. If not … well maybe ask us.
While there will be costs associated with instructing a professional to act on your behalf, there are definitely ways in which we can not only add value but also make your life easier, so please get in touch with your usual contact or email us at wealth@wansbroughs.com
