Lights, Camera, Attestation?

The government is introducing legislation to allow Will signings to be witnessed over video calls.

This is a huge step for those who are shielding and self-isolating, meaning that at last they can see their final wishes implemented without having to put themselves at risk.

As regular readers will be aware, this is something Wansbroughs has been campaigning for since the very start of lockdown. We are delighted that this change has come about, and is set to be in place until January 2022.

The advice remains that the conventional practice of two physically present witnesses should continue where that is an option.  However, for those who are at risk or have health concerns this is a major development. Though the legislation is yet to be introduced, it is set to be backdated and so Wills can be finalised and signed now.

There is therefore no reason to delay getting your Will updated and in place! All you need is an internet connection and to get in touch with your usual contact or to email wealth@wansbroughs.com.
