Advance Directives

Advance Directives, also known as Living Wills, give you the opportunity to choose in advance the circumstances in which you want to refuse certain kinds of medical treatment. Not only can this give you peace of mind, but it also means that your family will not be put in the position of having to make difficult decisions on your behalf at a stressful time.

However, you cannot use an Advance Directive to reflect all or any wishes you may have.  For example, you cannot request euthanasia or make doctors act against their professional judgement. We therefore recommend that you seek legal advice before signing any Advance Directive. We can prepare one for you and talk you through the provisions. If an Advance Directive refusing treatment is valid and applicable in the circumstances, doctors are bound by law to follow it.

Our team of Private Client - Wills Tax Trusts and Probate solicitors has in-depth experience in explaining and preparing Advance Directives, and would be happy to help you.
