Domestic Violence

Although domestic violence is chronically under reported, research estimates that it will effect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime. Domestic violence is a serious issue that is often underestimated in our society. It has more repeat victims than any other crime (on average there will have been 35 assaults before the police are called) and one incident of domestic violence is reported to the Police every minute. Despite this, many people find it extremely difficult to talk to someone about what happens behind closed doors at home and to seek help to resolve the situation.
Our team of Family Solicitors have represented many women and men who have suffered from domestic abuse providing advice about the help and protection that is available through the police, the Court system and voluntary organisations. We have also helped the victims of domestic violence to deal with the associated issues of housing, financial provision and the safety of their children.
We will deal with any enquiry in a confidential and sensitive manner considering all the options for resolving the situation. Where necessary, we will act rapidly to obtain protection from the Courts or the Police for you and any children in the family. While most parents try hard to protect their children from the difficulties that the family is suffering, most children are still keenly aware of the domestic abuse.
If you are suffering from domestic abuse or violence at this time, we recommend that you seek advice urgently. If you or your children are in immediate danger you should contact the Police straight away.
If you would like to speak with one of our team, we offer free initial advice appointments. For more information, please telephone 01380 733300 or 01225 896100. If you think you might qualify for Legal Aid we can help - please let us know when you telephone.
